If you visit Cusco, this day trip is necessary for you. Our one-day tour to Rainbow Mountain will take you through remote, high-altitude arid lands where you will meet isolated communities found in the Vilcanota mountain range. In addition, you will be able to witness the immensity of the highest sacred mountain in the Cusco region, Ausangate (6,372 m / 20,905).
Highlights
This epic adventure begins at 4:00 a.m. We will pick you up from the door of your accommodation in our private transportation and we will head for three hours to the South Valley of Cusco. Despite the early morning, you will have the opportunity to sleep a little more along the way thanks to the comfortable transportation in which we will go.
Along the way, we will observe picturesque Andean towns, agricultural platforms from the Inca era, fertile valleys, and beautiful rugged mountains. We will stop to appreciate the herds of llamas and alpacas that will entertain you while you enjoy a delicious continental breakfast that will give you the boost you need to start the walk.
We will continue our trip until we reach Llacto (4,630 m / 15,190 f), the starting point of the hike. From there, we will follow a beautiful stream and go along a winding path in the middle of the mountains. As we ascend, you will be rewarded with the stunning view of Ausangate Mountain (6,372m /20,905f). You will understand why this mountain is a living deity for the Andean people.
This remote region is home to many people, you will be able to see them work the land. You will also be surprised to see the traditional clothing that they wear and make thanks to the textile artistic talents that they have inherited from their ancestors, this is one of the many ways in which an ancient culture is preserved in the rural regions of Peru that refuses to submit to the rules of the Western world. Your guide will explain the meaning of some clothes, if you want you can ask him to teach you some words in Quechua, the native language of many inhabitants of the area that has been spoken since the time of the Incas.
After an hour and a half of hiking, we will reach the incredible rainbow mountain (5,100m/16,732f). You will be amazed by the beauty of this impressive natural formation, and you will feel the excitement of witnessing a unique natural site.
You will explore the surroundings a little and admire the impressive landscape while the guide explains the theories that exist about the origin of this mountain. Take this opportunity to take some amazing photos or just soak in the scenery.
We will spend about half to an hour at the top, depending on how fast you hiked and the weather conditions. If you want to stay longer there, you can let the guide know.
It will take us another hour to reach the starting point of the walk; From this point, we will board our transportation to the restaurant in Cusipata, where we will enjoy lunch. Then we will board our private transportation again to return to the city of Cusco. We will drop you off at the door of your accommodation so you can rest after an incredible day.
