Overview
On the way to Apu Salkantay, there is the dazzling Humantay Lagoon with turquoise waters. This is a perfect combination of cultural and natural beauty. We will enjoy the challenge of the ecosystem and the magnificent view of the snow-capped Salkantay (6264m/20551f), which is considered the most representative mountain of the Vilcabamba mountain range. The walk transports us to the time of the Incas and makes us aware of the spirits of the mountains such as Tucarhuay or Humantay whose peak exceeds 5000m (16404 feet).
Highlights
We will leave Cusco at 5:30am heading to Mollepata, we will travel for a little more than 2 hours passing through the towns of Poroy, Izcuchaca and Limatambo. Arriving at our destination we will have breakfast in our restaurant at an altitude of (3000m/9843f) and then we will continue with our transportation to our campsite in Soraypampa (3900m/12795f), where you will begin to feel the imposing presence of the glaciers and you will be able to see these defiant snowy faces that will dazzle you.
After listening to the talk of our professional guide, we will begin our ascent, walking approximately 2 hours. The terrain is hilly and rocky, using a cane is an excellent idea, you can walk at your own pace, take a breather, and continue, always remember to stay hydrated. After this you will enjoy the reward with the impressive view of the Humantay lagoon that will appear hidden in a rocky and majestic landscape, a beautiful mass of turquoise water that will dazzle your eyes. You can make one last effort and continue climbing the rocky slopes, the more you climb the panorama will improve and you will be able to better appreciate this incredible lagoon.
The return descent will last approximately an hour and a half to Soraypampa, then we will take our transportation that will take us to Mollepata again, where we will have lunch and then return to Cusco.
